Stephen Bienskie

Stephen Bienskie received his B.F.A. in Acting and Directing from Montclair University where he performed such classics roles as Alan Strang in Equus, Tony Lumpkin in She Stoops to Conquer, and Lysander in A Midsummer Night's Dream. While there, he also had the opportunity to direct such greats as Pinter, O'Neil, and Shakespeare. After graduating, he began a rigorous study in a form of physical theatre based on the technique of Étienne Decroux, with a company called The Adapters Movement Theatre. He enrolled as an intern and eventually graduated to a featured company member, touring nationally and performing off-Broadway.

Musically, he grew up singing and writing for several different rock bands, and while earning his degrees, he and his bands were headlining in various nightclubs and bars up and down the East Coast, in clubs such as The Bitter End, CBGB's, and Kenny's Kastaways. He has remained close to his rock-and-roll front-man roots as the opening vocalist for numerous corporate industrial shows and product launches. He was the lead singer for the house band on the Harley Davidson 100th Anniversary Tour and opened the '05 Presidential Inaugural Ball in Washington, D.C., singing the theme song "America's Future Rocks."

Stephen's move into mainstream theatre began when he did the first national tour of The Who's Tommy, in which he played the role of Pinball Lad #2. He then opened the first European company of the show, where he continued in the ensemble and was the stand-by for Michael Cerveris in the title role. Since then, he's gone on to originate roles in such shows as Zombie Prom (Jake), The Last Session (Buddy), Just So (the Leopard), Tom Jones (Mr. Fitzpatrick), SLUT (Adam) and Silence! The Musical (Buffalo Bill). He had the honor of being the final Rum Tum Tugger in the closing company of CATS on Broadway and received a Helen Hayes Award as Outstanding Lead Actor in a Musical for his portrayal of Cal in The Fix at The Signature in Arlington, Va. Other favorite roles of Stephen's have been Michael in tick, tick... BOOM! (George Street Playhouse), Conrad in Much Ado About Nothing (Globe Stage N.Y.), Harrison Floy in High Button Shoes (Goodspeed Opera House), Franny in Balm in Gilead, The Weasel in the world premier of Jim Hensen and Paul William's Emmet Otters Jug Band Christmas, and of course Buffalo Bill in Silence!

Stephen has guest-starred on such TV shows as The Sopranos, Law & Order, and Law & Order SVU. He is featured in the independent film We Pedal Uphill and is currently co-starring in the hit Web series Submissions Only, shown exclusively on Broadwayworld.com.
