Steve Madden is the VP/Editor-in-Chief of Rodale’s Cycling Group, which includes the monthly Bicycling magazine as well as Mountain Bike, which is published seven times annually.

Madden joined Rodale as a book editor in 2002 and became Editor-In-Chief of Bicycling in 2003, overseeing a complete redesign of the title. Under his leadership, Bicycling earned 4 National Magazine Award nominations and won its first NMA in this year’s competition.

He’s overseen Bicycling’s acclaimed BikeTown USA program since its inception six years ago, as well as spearheaded three years of BikeTown Africa and this year’s added initiative BikeTown Afghanistan.

Madden is a former senior editor of Sports Illustrated. In 1998, he left SI to become the founding editor of Outdoor Explorer, a Times Mirror magazine that was bought by AOL Time Warner in 2001.

A magazine industry veteran, Madden has been a reporter and columnist for Fortune, a staff writer for M Magazine, and editor and publisher of Cornell Magazine. He is also a prolific writer, having been published in Life, Time, Harper’s Bazaar and Child.

A native of Dorchester, Massachusetts, and a graduate of Cornell University, Madden lives in Chatham, New Jersey with his wife and 3 children.
