Terry Vahey

Chief Information Officer and Associate Vice President, San Jose State University

Terry Vahey is the chief information officer and associate vice president for IT services at San Jose State University in San Jose, California. Her focus is commitment to customer service and alignment of IT services with strategic business goals that contribute to success of the university’s educational mission. Thirty years in IT within California State University have given Vahey experience with information security, system design, operations, auditing, and management of wide-ranging technologies including network infrastructure, enterprise resource planning, collaboration suites, and business applications.

Vahey has held a variety of IT leadership roles within the California State University collaborating with campus constituents to deliver technology solutions for administrative and academic users. She embraces the new model for higher education described in “ Are We Innovation-Ready? A new model for higher education, 2013,” published by the office of the president at San José State University.

She values collaboration, integration, mobility, and security as themes that provide the framework for IT product and service decision making.

Terry holds a bachelor’s degree in information systems management
from the University of San Francisco and a master’s degree in administration from California State University, Bakersfield. She holds a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certification from ISC2 and a Certified Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC) certification from the ISACA organization.
