Tinatin Japaridze

Artist, Composer

Tinatin Japaridze (Artist/Composer) is an acclaimed Georgian-born vocalist, songwriter, journalist and radio personality. In 2009, her composition “Is It True” was the runner-up at the prestigious Eurovision Song Contest, hailed as the #1 Eurovision Song in the history of the contest, earning Tinatin her first pan-European hit. She subsequently signed a worldwide deal with Kobalt Publishing, one of the leading music publishers and the musical home to Lionel Richie, Gwen Stefani and Kelly Clarkson. Her debut single “We the Peoples,” based on the United Nations Charter is the only UN anthem endorsed by the organization’s top officials, and led Tinatin to be named one of Billboard magazine’s “Artists To Watch” with a Top 10 Critics Picks (Japaridze’s song “Wild”). Her upcoming memoir is a story of a girl’s journey through the Iron Curtain when the Great American Songbook was a forbidden fruit to all but one Soviet child with an all-American dream. She is currently completing the book and workshopping a new stage show called "Matryoshka: the Musical". It is the true story of how a Russian nesting doll rebuilt one girl's American Dream. The two-character musical is a tale of the creative relationship between a young Georgian-Russian award-winning singer/songwriter (Tinatin) and an older African-American Broadway arranger/composer/pianist/writer Timothy Graphenreed. It chronicles the meticulous reconstruction of Tinatin's nascent career after she came to NY in 2000 at age 16 ready to set the Pop world on fire only to return to Moscow, hurt, rejected and unsure of her once promising future... Upcoming staged readings are tentatively set for early fall of 2014.
