Todd Carmichael, co-founder of premier coffee roaster La Colombe Torrefaction, is an adventurer traveler whose explorations span the globe. He is the first American to cross the Antarctic on foot, a 700 mile solo and unsupported journey from the Antarctic Coast to the South Pole that also set a new world record. On September 20, 2010, Carmichael attempts the first solo and self-contained crossing of Death Valley wilderness in support of water projects and other causes, a 155-mile journey with temperatures approaching 120 degrees, that requires him to pull over 450 pounds of water, food and gear in a self-fabricated rickshaw.
