Valerie DeFillipo

Director, FP2020

Valerie DeFillipo brings over three decades of family planning expertise to her role as Director of FP2020. Throughout her career, Ms. DeFillipo has demonstrated a deep commitment to supporting women and girls by shaping reproductive health policy agendas, mobilizing grassroots movements, and improving service delivery through the implementation of robust and inclusive programming.

Most recently, she served as the President of Friends of UNFPA, where she led efforts to mobilize funds and action for UNFPA’s lifesaving work. Previously, she served as Vice President of International Health for Abt Associates. Prior to that, she spent five years in the United Kingdom as the Director of External Affairs, International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF). In this capacity, she spearheaded global advocacy, communications, and resource mobilization efforts for one of the largest global providers and advocates of sexual and reproductive health and rights.

Her leadership and management trajectory includes technical assignments in Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America. She was the Founding Director of Planned Parenthood Global Partners (PPGP), the international public policy arm of Planned Parenthood Federation of America’s (PPFA). Prior to that she was Executive Director of Planned Parenthood of Greater Miami, Inc., where she developed an award winning teen pregnancy prevention center. She also served as Associate Executive Director at the Margaret Sanger Center of Planned Parenthood New York City and Executive Director of a private-non-profit focused on reproductive health.

Ms. DeFillipo received her MA from Harvard University and completed her undergraduate studies at James Madison University.
