I'm a 16 year old junior in high school who loves to write and advocate for narcolepsy.
Hello. My name is Vanessa Waldman. I live in Northern California with my mom, dad, and dog Simba. I am a junior in high school. I was diagnosed with narcolepsy, a rare neurological sleep disorder, when I was ten years old. Through the knowledge gained from my own struggles and experiences, I've become passionate about helping others with narcolepsy. Thanks to the education and training provided by The Narcolepsy Network, I've had the privilege to become a Youth Ambassador for Narcolepsy. In this role, I am an educator, advocate and spokesperson for narcolepsy. This year, I have the opportunity to be a presenter at the national conference and also to train new Youth Ambassadors. At school, in addition to my studies, I hold the position of Blog Manager and serve on the Yearbook Committee. I also play soccor and swim. Outside of school, I enjoy fiction writing, baking, traveling, and spending time with my family, and eating chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream. Children hold a special place in my heart, and I spend much of my time working as a summer camp counselor and Hebrew school teacher. I also serve as a community youth group board member, helping others through community service.
