Vicky Shorr is a writer who lived in Brazil for ten years, and has just finished a book on Brazilian bandits. She is currently in Brazil on a grant from Wellesley College, to study the life and times of the great Brazilian writer, Euclides da Cunha, which will take her into the outback of Bahia. She is also writng an article for <em>Ms</em>. Magazine on the disastrous repercussions of the Bush government´s new "ABC" AIDS policy--Abstinence, Be Faithful, and only then and once that hasn´t worked, Condoms--which is taking her into the slums and out among the professional sex workers, who are at the forefront of Brazil´s own successful AIDS program.<br />
She currently lives in Los Angeles and is the co-founder of the Archer School for Girls there.
