Wais Ahmad Barmak

Minister, Rural Rehabilitation and Development of Afghanistan

Mr. Wais Ahmad Barmak was appointed Minister of the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development in March 2012. Previously, from December 2008, Mr. Barmak was Deputy Minister of Programmes at the MRRD.

Prior to joining the MRRD, Mr. Barmak was the Executive Director of Afghanistan’s National Solidarity Programme (NSP), a major national priority programme. During his tenure as Executive Director Mr. Barmak was responsible for the strategic direction and planning of the NSP, as well as the overall management and coordination of the programme on behalf of MRRD. He was also Senior Advisor to the Department of Disaster Management and Preparedness in Afghanistan. He also has extensive experience working with Afghan and international organizations, such as the Agency Coordination Body for Afghan Relief, the United Nations, and the International Committee for the Red Cross.
