William A. Sundstrom

Professor of economics researching poverty and inequality in Silicon Valley, climate change impacts on food insecurity, and labor history.

William A. Sundstrom is Professor of Economics at Santa Clara University. He received a B.A. in Economics from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and a Ph.D. in Economics from Stanford University.

Professor Sundstrom's research interests include poverty and inequality, the economic history of labor markets, education, and related institutions, and the economics of race and gender. Recent research projects include the causes and effects of public libraries in the United States, patterns of poverty in the Silicon Valley region and the effectiveness of local antipoverty initiatives, and determinants of food insecurity in rural Central America in light of climate change challenges.

He has published numerous articles in scholarly journals and is co-editor of the book, History Matters: Essays on Economic Growth, Technology, and Demographic Change (Stanford University Press).

Professor Sundstrom teaches courses in microeconomics; data analysis and econometrics; the economics of race, ethnicity, and gender; economic history; and economics of the environment. He blogs about economics, music, and the outdoors at http://billsundstrom.blogspot.com/.
