William D. Hartung

William D. Hartung is the director of the Arms and Security Project at the Center for International Policy (CIP). His books on foreign policy subjects include And Weapons For All (HarperCollins); Lessons from Iraq: Avoiding the Next War (Paradigm Press, co-edited with Miriam Pemberton); and Prophets of War: Lockheed Martin and the Making of the Military-Industrial Complex (Nation Books). Prior to working at CIP, Hartung was the director of the Arms and Security Initiative at the New America Foundation; the director of the Arms Trade Resource Center at the World Policy Institute, where he remains a senior fellow; a speechwriter and policy analyst in the office of New York State Attorney General Robert Abrams; and a project director at the New York-based Council on Economic Priorities. In addition to the Huffington Post, Hartung's writing on defense and foreign policy issues has appeared in the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times, US News and World Report, the National Interest, the Nation, TomDispatch, and the World Policy Journal. Hartung has been a featured expert on ABC, CBS and NBC News, National Public Radio, Democracy Now, the BBC, and scores of national, international, and regional radio outlets. Hartung lives in New York City and has a parallel life as a standup comedian.
