Merry and Bright Christmas Sign
“I LOVE this piece and I seriously skip a step whenever I walk by the mantle and see it,” says Rachel at Craving Some Creativity of her homemade holiday sign. She used steel wool to get the aged look: “I lightly brushed areas to reveal the the grey color underneath and highlight the character of the wood until I was satisfied.” Nice work!

Giant Christmas Light Star
Perhaps our favorite piece of DIY decor, this incredibly cute Christmas star comes together in a few minutes, using about $5 worth of supplies—mostly yardsticks on sale at Lowe’s. Says blogger Crystal: “All I did for assembly was to lay them out in a star shape, fiddle with them until they were ‘right’ and hot glue all the places they touched with generous amounts of hot glue.” A little paint, a string of lights, and *voila* you’re a star, baby!

Snowflake Luminarias
“I grew up in a town that put out luminarias every Christmas instead of hanging Christmas lights,” says blogger Alicia at Thrifty & Chic. “It’s so magical seeing them on roofs of every building around and lining driveways everywhere.” Making them at home is easy, too, thanks to readily available materials like lunch bags and tea lights.

Monogram Berry Wreath
“I was out shopping [and] saw this simple wreath with a monogram and holly,” says Our Unexpected Journey blogger Adrienne. “I turned it over to see the price and it was $56! It was once again one of those, ‘Oh please, I can make that myself’ moments.” You can, too, with just a glue gun, some burlap, faux berries, and a fiberboard letter from any craft store.

Handprint Snowman Ornaments
Adorable and creative, This fun Christmas craft for kids is also a wonderful keepsake for years to come. Though permanent markers can work, we found that paint markers and glitter glue did best for decorating. Just make sure you work quickly if there’s a toddler involved. (Don’t ask us how we know.)
