If you work in accounting, programming or as a writer, you can easily be sitting at your desk all day before you take a break, and chances are that you sit while commuting to and from work as well. While technology has provided us with many advancements and job opportunities, remaining sedentary can pose a number of serious health risks.

Some of these risks include obesity, metabolic syndrome and high blood pressure. According to Dr. Mercola, "the more hours you spend sitting in a day, the shorter your lifespan may be. One study found, for instance, that reducing the average time you spend sitting down to less than three hours a day could increase your life expectancy by two years."
