Great results don't always require great talent. There are many things that we can do to look to multiple the talent that we have and can help us to achieve major success. Here are ten things that don't require any special skills or talents that will help us to approve our performance and achieve better outcomes.
When we are punctual, we show respect to others and that we value their time and their efforts. It also helps to set the tone, and show that the work is important to us.
It's not good enough to just turn up. We need to be prepared; we need to be ready to do what needs doing. If we turn up prepared, we can then look to be effective immediately.
Don't look to blame others for failure, take ownership and responsibility for making things a success. When we take accountability, we're saying we have the power to be successful. When we start to blame other people we give away our power to be able to fix things or be successful.
Working hard is the easiest thing that we can do. It doesn't require any special skill or expertise; it's just a question of putting in the required effort.
Commitment is just about being dedicated, promising to do your best rather than just going through the motions. It also means being prepared to go the extra mile if needed.
Have Great Attitude
It attitudes not aptitude which determines altitude. A great attitude can take you a long way on the road to success as it is a talent multiplier. Whereas a bad attitude can pretty much negate the benefits of highly skilled and talented people.
Enthusiasm is infectious, the more enthusiastic you are, the more enthusiastic those around you will become. Enthusiasm will help you keep going when the going gets tough which it always does if the goals we set are worth achieving.
Listening shows respect. It also helps increase understanding, alignment and ensure that we are all on the same page.
A positive attitude is key for success. When we believe that things will be successful, when they start to go wrong we step in and look to do something because we were sure of our success. When we have a negative attitude when things start to fail, we adopt an "I told you so attitude". While a positive attitude doesn't guarantee success, a negative one pretty much guarantees failure.
We all need help at some time or other, and we should look to create a supportive environment, where people feel comfortable giving and asking for help. Collaborative work environments are always more successful than competitive ones; they help foster teamwork which enables the sum of the whole to be greater than the sum of the parts.
As a leader I was ways tell my teams that we all have the choice about how we do things, and if we choose to do the ten things above then they will have a positive impact on our performance and will help us achieve much better results.
