Were you eager to get out of bed this morning? Or did you pull the covers over your head and burrow in?

Have there been too many of these kinds of mornings lately--where the covers beckon more strongly than the sunrise?

I know how that is.

You have things you know you need to do. But nothing is really quickening your cells.

If you want to feel more passion for life, rouse the adventurer in you. You'll get out of bed with anticipation. You'll notice that fear has dissolved in curiosity.

Sound good?

The Curious Attitude

The hallmark of the adventurers' attitude is curiosity. When you are curious about other people, judgment takes a back seat. You're interested rather than critical. You give the other person the benefit of your curiosity. Situations are open for new insight.

What if you saw each moment like this? Wouldn't you bound out of bed each morning?

Activate Possibility

  1. Ask questions. Then ask new ones. Instead of deciding you can't do something, ask yourself, why not? And why not now? Take the first step. Ask what if? Do it.
  2. Dream boldly. Let your thoughts soar! Everything worthwhile begins with what you imagine. Remember what Goethe said, "Whatever you can do or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it."
  3. By its nature, travel takes you into unknown situations with boundary-stretching possibility around every corner.
  4. Choose what's scary. If you forever stay where you are comfortable, you'll never discover more than you already know. New gifts await you in the realm of the uncomfortable. So what's scary? Do that. The corollary to this is...
  5. Be willing to make a mistake. Only you get to determine what constitutes a mistake anyway. Looking foolish is only in the eye of the beholder. Live from the inside-out, so that your viewpoint is the one that counts.
  6. If you always read non-fiction, pick up a great story. If you only read novels, explore the non-fiction racks. S-t-r-e-t-c-h.
  7. Express yourself out loud! Dance with abandon. Sing in the shower. You get the idea.
  8. Talk to that interesting looking stranger at the next party. Or the couple sitting next to you at the restaurant. I've done this in my neighborhood café and in non-English speaking countries. These have been some of my most memorable meals!
  9. Begin something. We are all beginners somewhere in life. It's a humbling experience to be really bad at something. Then you discover that it doesn't matter. That willingness to explore is its own reward. Why not learn to plan an instrument or something equally challenging?
  10. Play! Pull out your child's crayons. Raid their paint box.
  11. Take time out. Get quiet. Go inside yourself. This is the greatest adventure of all, into your potential, into new dimensions, into a greater truth.

Adventure and Beyond

Each time you venture out beyond the known world, you become someone new. Pay attention to what feels unfamiliar. Stay with it. It will become known to you as you give it time. It will become you!

Start by exploring what feels different. Notice new ways of thinking and of interacting with others. You may experience a different kind of flow in your body. New pictures about your life might come into awareness. Ask questions about them. Explore.

Your curiosity leads you to exploration and wonder. Exploration is the stage for experiencing life more fully. Wonder opens life's mysteries.

Your life as an adventurer. What stories you will tell! I'd love to hear them in your comments!
