2013 Elections Around The World

LOOK: 2013 Elections Around The World

Another year, another set of elections. As 2013 takes off, several countries around the world are preparing to hold crucial votes.

The Czech Republic was early to the game, and held the first round of its presidential election on Jan. 11. Former leftist Prime Minister Milos Zeman and conservative Foreign Minister Karel Schwarzenberg are set to face off in a second round at the end of January, the AP reports.

Israeli voters, meanwhile, will cast their ballots on Jan. 22 in a vote that will likely re-elect Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The polls come amid continuing tension over Israeli settlements in East Jerusalem and the West Bank and Iran's nuclear program, the Daily Star explains.

And speaking of Iran, the Islamic Republic is scheduled to hold its own elections in June, four years after the disputed reinstatement of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
