Queer New York International Arts Festival Running Sept. 16-26, 2015

The Queer New York International Arts Festival (QNYIA) opens today, Sept. 16, 2015 -- and this year's line up is one that you certainly don't want to miss.

Curated and produced by Zvonimir Dobrović, QNYIA will run through Sept. 26 and features works from individuals across the spectrums of queer identity and within the art world.

This year's festival includes:

Annie Sprinkle and Beth Stephens (U.S.) showcasing two films from their research on SexEcology: "EcoSexWalking Tour of Central Park" and "Goodbye Gauley Mountain"

Ivo Dimchev (Bulgaria): "Facebook Theater" and "15 songs from my shows"

Mmakgosi Kgabi (South Africa): "Shades of a Queen"

Joshua Monten (Switzerland/U.S.): "Doggy Style"

Mehdi-Georges Lahlou (Morocco/France): "Stupidité contrôleé" or "jump jump baby jump jump"

Bruno Isaković (Croatia): "Disclosures"

John Moletress (U.S.): "Jarman (all this maddening beauty)"

Max Steele (U.S.): "The Good Daughter"

Kaia Gilje and Lorene Bouboushian (U.S.): "Know What Smokes"

Michael Breslin (U.S.): "Kiss me just once more"

“Queer New York Internal Arts Festival is dedicated to supporting experimentation and research of artistic practices that deal with queer issues which go beyond the classical reading of queer connected solely to gender and sexuality," Dobrović said in a statement to The Huffington Post. "We define 'queer' as anything outside the norm and in that sense the international aspect of our festival is very important because norms depend on geography and different contexts and cultures that shape them. When curating the festival I am interested in creating a frame within which we can, as spectators, have a different perspective on issues and topics that we sometimes feel we know perfectly well. So, the festival brings together works that play with content of queer but also with artistic forms. I would say the visitors of the festival can expect innovative and experimental theater, dance, and performance art as well as challenging perspectives on queer issues and different norms (religious, racial, sexual).”
