I'm used to having a fast paced life -- lots of travel, lots of opportunities, busy busy busy... but the past few months have been different, things have just been normal. I've had little plans and no where to go. We've been making dinner at home more, playing with my son, preparing for the arrival of our baby girl, seeing a few close friends here and there, going on some dates and spending time snuggling on the couch.

Before I had my son, I was worried that this way of normal life was going to be boring, and it did take me a while to embrace it, but now that I have, it's wonderful.

Now, when we strive to create a pared down, simple life, it can be easy to get caught up in the minutia. When there's lots of time, it's easy for it to get filled with things we don't want to do, or we take the risk of just being flat out bored.

So I want you to take a second to check: are you happy with your life? Is it moving too fast? Too slow? Are you taking time doing what you want? Do you feel like you're creating what you want, or do you feel like life is going in a crazy direction and you're just trying to keep up?

Here are my three steps to consciously create the life you desire so you can get in the driver's seat of your life and no longer feel like you're just along for the ride.

Step 1. Know what you want:
Without fail, during the first call in Live More Weigh Less, someone gets on the phone and starts to complain about how their boss is a jerk, their husband never plans any dates and they have no friends. So I ask them, "What do you want your job, your relationship and your social life to look like?"

She usually doesn't have a clue.

We spend so much time thinking about the stuff we don't want, and no time thinking about what we do want. We can't make any changes if we don't know where we're going. I want you to create your ideal day from where you wake up to who you spend your time with to how much you work. This exercise takes some time but it is so powerful.

Step 2. Delegate:
Here's the deal, I bet you are really busy. Busy doing things you don't want to do, which is why the life you created in step one, isn't happening. The biggest cause of failure I see when it comes to designing your life is that women just try to add in what they want without taking out what they don't. We don't have time to do it all.

Delegating always brings up a lot of attitude. "I can't afford help!" "I should be able to do it myself" "people will think I'm lazy and entitled!" No one has ever received an award for doing everything themselves. In fact, the most successful people learn to delegate and create a support team.

Think about all of the things you can get off your plate and then hire a babysitter, get an assistant, if you're an entrepreneur hire a Business Manager, and a great designer, if you work in corporate get an assistant at the office, next time you plan a vacation hire a travel agent.

If money is tight, mentor a young colleague in exchange for extra help at work, barter with a personal assistant for pre-cooked meals or your old clothes, trade child care with a friend.

Ninety nine percent of the time, women who struggle with their weight are busy doing everything for everyone else, and nothing for themselves. They are so drained that food is their only source of energy, love and rest. Saying no, asking for help and having time to care for yourself are the best ways to create your ideal life and weight.

Step 3. Do little things everyday:
The reason why my current simple life is so fulfilling and meaningful is because I do little things everyday to take care of myself and make me happy. It's about slowly sipping coffee at a beautiful cafe, napping in the park, or getting a massage. These little things have become my life force and the key to having an amazing quality of life.

In the comments below I want to know, what do you need to have an incredible quality of life? And what's the first step you're gonna take to make it a reality?
