Regardless of where you are in your career, there is always something to be grateful for. It is being grateful that causes the universe to release more of what we want and need. Is there a better career or job on your wish list? If so, start by being thankful for your current situation-even if it sucks.

No, I am not crazy. Keep reading.

1. If you are searching (or thinking about searching) for something new, be grateful you have a unique chance to select EXACTLY what you want from your next opportunity.

Here is the plan:

Write your ideal job, company, industry, salary and everything in between and go after it! While you are at it, write down the kind of employee you will be and leader you want to report to. After you write these things, write what you will need to get there and what is stopping you.

You can have what you want within reason. Now, if you haven’t been to law school and/or passed the bar exam, your business card will not say ‘Attorney at Law.” No surprise there, right?

It may be painful now, but there is beauty in being able to press the reset button. I have changed jobs and decided after 13 years to change careers. I am not suggesting that you leave but if you must, start with a plan.

2. Kudos! Now you have a chance to identify what made things suck in the first place. Doing so will get you closer to understanding yourself and what makes you happy in the workplace. What a beautiful thing!

You are more likely to seek and find a favorable outcome if you know what that looks like. Bet yet, understanding what you don’t want is 10 times better (in my opinion.)

My secret weapon

When my clients need career guidance, I turn to Holyfield International to provide me with a DISC Assessment. These VERY thorough scientific based reports are better than awesome! Answering the questions on the assessment takes just a few minutes but the results are comprehensive and eye opening. When I took the assessment, and read the results, I was sold. I literally laughed out loud at the accuracy of the report. Tammy Holyfield warned me, but I must experience things for myself.

Here are a few things that will outlined for you on the report:

· Your level of Dominance, Influence, Consciousness and Steadiness (that is what DISC stands for.)

  • ·Your deal work environment (very important but often overlooked.)
  • What you bring to the workplace (great for interviewing practice and resume building.)
  • Your strengths and areas of improvement (let’s not call them weaknesses.)
  • Your communication style based on your DISC results.
  • How to communicate with others based on their styles.

The DISC Assessment is not only for job seekers. Think about how much this help your current team to work in harmony or at least understand one another better. Career Coaches. leaders and HR professionals can use these tools too. I can introduce you to Tammy.

3. Congrats! You are not delusional. Isn’t that something to be thankful for? You realize your situation sucks and that is a good thing! Honestly, some people remain in horrible situations waiting on things to get better without action on their part. You do not have to get comfortable in a less than fulfilling situation. You deserve better and you know that you do.

My question to you is, what are you going to do? Hopefully, you can make improvements right where you are. Sometimes, you must make a change.

Did any of this resonate with you? In a weird way, I hope not. I want you to be happy. We spend too much time at work to be miserable. No, I am not happy that you are in a career or job that sucks, but I happy that I can help. Right now, is a perfect time.
