While traveling, if I don't get the opportunity to escape the tourist infrastructure of my destination and connect with locals, I AM NOT A HAPPY TRAVELER.

To address this, I have an immersive style of travel that often leads me to extraordinary experiences like the time I went fishing in Tunisia, had an Italian lesson in the streets of Rome, and explored an off-the-beaten-path, local, foodie hangout in London.

I often hear from my viewers and friends that they, too, would like to travel the way that I do but that they're not as outgoing or they just don't know how to do it.

With these concerns in mind, here are three fail-safe tips to plan an immersive trip. They are even quite useful if you don't have much time in a destination.

Below are the sites I mentioned in the video. I am not trying to express a preference for any given site.

Lodging Sites:
Airbnb.com, HouseTrip.com, HomeStay.com, Knok.com, VRBO.com

Local Tours Sites:
Vayable.com, Tripzaar.com, Tripbod.com, Spottedbylocals.com, Contexttravel.com, Toursbylocals.com, Cupoflocalsugar.com

Kitchen Hopping Sites:
Cookening.com, SupperKing, Kitchen.ly
