Choosing a white palette for a bedroom ensures it will be a serene oasis, and layers of white linens take things one step further. A cloud of fluffy, snowy sheets feels ultra luxurious, reminding you of that magical moment when you climb into bed at a high-end hotel. But how do you achieve this dreamy look at home? (And, perhaps more importantly, how do you keep your linens looking fresh?) We asked Gwen Whiting and Lindsey Boyd, cofounders of chic fabric care company the Laundress, for their expert tips.

Choose cotton or linen.
"Cotton and linen are the most durable fabrics, which makes them the easiest to treat. These fibers can also take exposure to heat from drying and ironing very well," say Boyd and Whiting. Not to mention, both materials are soft and breathable for the best night's sleep ever.

Wash white linens in hot water.
"Sheets are often in contact with body oils and products like lotion, which can cause staining, discoloration, and dinginess," says the duo. "Washing sheets in warm or cold water will not be effective in removing these elements; hot water provides the most thorough and hygienic cleaning." To further ensure the longevity of your linens, rotate sets every two weeks.

Stay far away from chlorine bleach.
"It will absolutely cause yellowing." Chlorine bleach can also deteriorate fabric fibers, causing them to fray, or even tear, over time. Pick up oxygen bleach instead; it's nontoxic and color-safe. Boyd and Whiting recommend adding a capful to every wash cycle to keep your linens bright white.

Iron your sheets.
It might be the ultimate luxury when it comes to your bed. "That cloudlike look comes from the bedding being finely pressed, tightly made, and layered with a high-quality down comforter and multiple pillows," say Boyd and Whiting. Press the sheets when they're still slightly damp, then use a light starch to help them stay wrinkle-free.
