Although I'm mourning summer's end (was Labor Day seriously just yesterday?), I find the best way to grieve and move on is to focus on all the cool things the future can bring. So I've already begun to set my sights on some fun film festivals to check out this fall.
So if you're a local to SoCal or planning to visit the Golden Coast this fall, I hope to run into you at some of these filmtastic events.
#1 NewFilmmakers Los Angeles
This fantastic organization holds a monthly film festival with the next one being this Saturday, September 10th. This month's selections will be highlighting the works of talented Latino and Hispanic filmmakers and their stories and consists of two short film programs.
The event starts at 4:15pm and will be held at The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Pickford Center.

#2 Catalina Film Festival
Okay, so Catalina Island isn't exactly in L.A. but it's only one short ferry ride away...
This star-studded event takes place the end of September starting on the 28th of the month and runs for five full days. You can get a daily cinema and party pass for as little as $40 a day. Just don't forget to budget in that boat ride!

#3 Screamfest Horror Film Festival
Although I'm not a giant horror fan, I do appreciate a good sexy vampire story or even a solid supernatural story so I found it necessary to include this one on my list. It begins on October 18th and runs until the 27th to scare the crap out of you in time for Halloween.

#4 International Family Film Festival
This festival also takes place in October with the award ceremony being held on the last night on the 23rd. This year, they're spotlighting women and the stories they tell, which is exciting to see. You can also get an all access pass for $250 and it's located at Raleigh Studios in Hollywood.

#5 AFI Fest
I've wanted to go to this film festival for years and I'm hoping that this year will be the year that I finally get to check it out because it looks fantastic! It helps that this film festival (held at the Chinese and Egyptian Theatres in Hollywood) offers free tickets to individual screenings starting on November 1st.
So if you're around November 10th-17th, you should check it out too.
