5 Reasons to Start Meditating in 2015

Most people that start meditating do it for the materialistic versus spiritual reasons. I know I did. It astounds me to this day the amount of business success that is attributed to meditation, and more importantly, the lessons you can apply directly to the business world.

I started meditation in 2013 through a method called Sahaj Marg. At first, I considered it one of the toughest things to do. Closing your eyes and sitting in silence for such a long period of time is a hard task for anyone that starts meditation, especially for someone who loved to be busy.

That being said, I have stuck with it, and have reaped the benefits of meditation from a physical, emotional, professional, individual, and spiritual level.

Most people that start meditating do it for the materialistic versus spiritual reasons. I know I did. It astounds me to this day the amount of business success that is attributed to meditation, and more importantly, the lessons you can apply directly to the business world.

Here are five reasons why you should start meditating in 2015.

1. Human-to-human connection

Do you remember the last time you treated someone less than what they are worthy of? I know I definitely do, and it hurts to this day.

One of the toughest lessons I learned in life is that no one cares how much your worth, how successful you are, how many fancy things you have, if you do not treat others with respect and care about others.

During the last two and a half years of practicing meditation, I am learning to develop myself into establishing a human to human connection with everyone I interact with. This starts with seeing the divinity within each other, versus the obvious differences.

2. Appreciation for everything

One of the toughest things to understand in business is that everything will not go your way. Out of a hundred deals you may be working on, half of them may not even close for some external reason that may not be in your control.

That being said, your appreciation for everything in life gets amplified when you start meditation, because you begin to realize that the peaceful, homeostatic nature is what your soul longs for, which, not to mention, is an incredible feeling too.

After starting meditation, I have come to the realization that there are so many things to be thankful for.

3. Peaceful decision making

One of the best feelings is being deep into meditation, and the refreshing feeling one gets when they emerge out of meditation. There is absolutely no better feeling than this.

Regardless of what happens in my day to day life, I know that I will always have time to look inside and get lost with my meditation.

For this reason, the condition that one maintains after meditation allows you to make decisions that are calculated, versus rash decisions.

4. Decrease in blood pressure

For the majority of my life, I was always very upset with the way everything was going. My sister even recalled me getting upset about little things, such as her taking the last cookie from the cookie jar.

Being a in a trance like state and maintaining that condition throughout the day gives me an opportunity to remain calm in the most traumatic states.

According to WebMD, a website that provides health and wellness information, says that meditation can not only reduce your blood pressure, but increase your immune system.

As entrepreneurs, we are constantly bombarded with the most stressful situations such as making payroll, managing employees, and everything else in the book.

Since starting meditation, I have seen a huge drop in my blood pressure, along with a reduction in how angry I get.

Adding to my decrease in blood pressure, I have seen a change in my management style. With my first company STR, I used to get insanely upset if someone would do something incorrect. Ever since moving on from STR, I have seen a change in that management style. Now I have gone from a fail-cut management style to a fail-first style.

5. More business success

Do you want more success in life?

Well, just remember that people like doing business with individuals that are kind hearted and that see each other as humans, versus dollar values.

One of the biggest benefits of meditation is I begin to see every human being as just that - humans beings.

Conclusion

Two years ago, my life was completely changed during a trip to Chennai, India, and still to this day, meditation continues to shape and mold me into a better entrepreneur and individual.
