Hillary Clinton is without question, the most talked-about woman in politics right now (that's a sad fact in and of itself, but that's a different article).
A lot of that talk is centered on weather or not she will run for president in 2016. She hasn't given a clear answer one way or the other and said that she won't likely make a decision until the end of this year.
Personally, I think she is going to run. Not only would the timing be right, with a lot of momentum being built and a lack of other candidates from either party with star power, but she already has a Super PAC behind her; Ready for Hillary. The PAC was founded in January of 2013 and ever since, has raised almost $6 million and garnered more than 1 million supporters to be donated to Hillary if she runs. It's an organization I am proud to be volunteering for and one that could easily put her over the top before the race even begins.
Hillary would make for a fantastic president and I truly believe, could be a game changer (and not just because she would be the first woman in the Oval Office). Her commitment to justice, hard work, and determination remain unmatched in Washington.
Here are five reasons why, that anyone can agree with, regardless of political affiliation or beliefs:
1)She Has An Excellent Resume: It's pretty undeniable that Clinton has a lot of political experience, no matter what you think of her. She was not only the first lady for eight years during Bill's presidency, a role she was very active in, pioneering the Health Security Act, and playing a key role in the development of the Adoption and Safe Families Act, the State Children's Health Insurance Program and more, but was also the first female Senator from New York, a role she served in from 2001-2009, and the 67th secretary of state during President Obama's first term in office. She has invaluable experience and expertise that she can bring to the position.
2)She's Fearless: Did you know that Clinton has been politically active since she was just 13? In 1960 she canvassed in Chicago when she found election fraud against Richard Nixon. Seriously. At 13. I think that says enough in and of itself.
3)She's Been the First Woman to Do Many Things: Not only was she the first female senator to represent New York, but also became the first female to be made a partner at Rose Law Firm, was the first woman to serve on the board of directors of the Legal Services Corporation was the first woman to be on the board of Wal-Mart, and was the first First Lady to have a post-graduate degree. Clearly, she's a trailblazer.
4)She's Not Afraid to be Radical: Did you know Hillary kept her last name of Rodham when she married Bill in 1975? Considering that a woman not changing her last name when she gets married can still be a controversial choice to make today, imagine what it must have meant 30 years ago. While she was in college, she organized a strike in protest of the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. and upon graduation, was the first student to ever make the classes commencement address, which landed her a spot in Life magazine and as a guest on a few talk shows. She's also stood up to a lot of sexist and other personal attacks, including being compared to Lady Macbeth by more than 20 mainstream publications, the extreme focus on her appearance during her time as FLOTUS and as a candidate in the 2008 Presidential election.
5)She's Not Afraid to Admit When She's Wrong: Everyone makes mistakes, including Clinton, who has never been shy about admitting it. In college for example, she was the president of the Wellesley Young Republicans and stepped down when she had opposing views regarding the Vietnam War and the Civil Rights movement. She also once made negative comments directed at housewives during Bill's presidential campaign in 1992, which she graciously apologized for. In recent interviews, she's also acknowledged her missteps in her 2008 presidential run. In her new book Hard Choices, she admits that she was wrong in her decision to vote to authorize the War in Iraq during her time in the Senate. Many politics are too proud to admit they've made any mistakes and clearly, Clinton isn't one of them.
More than that though, Clinton has proved herself to be a champion for women's and human rights, a self-starter (just look at Wikipedia for the long list of projects and bills she's created), and someone with a passion for creating social change. Hillary should be our first female president, not only because of her strength, but because she's the best person for the job.
