I love the band 5 Seconds of Summer, and I've been a fan for a long time. But I love them even more now.
When the new video for their song "She Looks So Perfect" came out, I couldn't wait to see it. And when I did, my jaw dropped. I had to watch it again. You might expect perfection from a song titled "She looks So Perfect," but what they included in the video is even better.
The video shows people dancing -- but they're not stereotypically "perfect people." The video shows people of different ages, body types and ethnicities. All of them joyfully throw off their clothes and dance in their underwear!
"She looks so perfect standing there
in my American Apparel underwear
and I know now, that I'm so down
Your lipstick stain is a work of art
I got your name tattooed in an arrow heart
and I know now, that I'm so down."
They're not only throwing away their clothes and dancing, they are throwing away a perceived ideal of what people think is perfect. They're just having a great time.
The message?
If you love someone, however they look is perfect. Society's idea of perfection doesn't have to be the same as your perception.
Slender models aren't the only ones entitled to laugh with joy, dance with abandon, have fun and love fully. All people deserve to. And that's just perfect!
What do you think?
