Becoming a millionaire is no easy task. In fact, if it was easy everyone would be millionaires. However, it seems like every day more and more people are reaching their dreams and becoming millionaires in their own right. Being a millionaire doesn't necessarily take a certain amount of time, after all, I managed to figure it out when I was in college with far less knowledge and far less experience behind me than I have now. There are all different types of millionaires out there today and while they may have different paths towards becoming a millionaire, there are a few secrets that most millionaires have in common. Learning these secrets is the first step towards becoming a certified millionaire. Use these secrets to your advantage as you build your own individual empire, they may go a long way in helping you reach your own financial goals.

1. Plan for the long term, not short term...big things start small.

If you want to be a millionaire, then you need to set some big, long term financial goals for yourself. Remember, being a millionaire won't happen overnight. It may end up taking much longer than you want it to. With this in mind, you need to look at where your financial goals are heading in the long term, instead of what you are accomplishing over shorter periods of time. You may not have made $50,000 this month, but you may be building slowly towards the long term goal of reaching that $1 million mark. One of my top millionaire students, Tim Grittani, turned $1,500 into over $1M in slow incremental profits. Focusing too much on the short term can end up overwhelming you while allowing you to get down on yourself. Make sure you keep the big goals in mind.

2. Dream big, big goals push you to do more, improves your performance every day.

If your dreams don't scare you a little bit, then you probably aren't dreaming big enough. If you really want to reach big accomplishments then you need to start with big goals. The right goals can push you to do more and help you to improve your performance each and every day. You should set goals for yourself that push you to work harder than you have ever worked before. The harder you push yourself the more you will be able to achieve.

3. Always challenge yourself, never stop, even after you make it.

No matter how far you make it or how much you have accomplished, you should always be challenging yourself and pushing yourself to do better. Once you "make it" and reach your million dollar goal, you shouldn't just stop working and rest on the accomplishments you have already, you should forge ahead and work on building off your success and creating new goals that you can accomplish.

4. Ignore naysayers/critics, success is the best revenge.

Along your journey towards becoming a millionaire, chances are you will be faced with some critics. People don't like to hear of others' success. You may be faced with these naysayers, but it is important that you don't let them get you down. Remember, success is the best revenge. Instead of wasting your time and energy on telling these critics why you will be successful and why your future is going to be so bright and ignore what they have to say. Instead focus on how you are going to be successful and prove them wrong instead of telling them they are wrong.

5. Focus on niches where there is less competition.

If you want to really find success in any market, it is important that you focus on the right niche with your efforts. Find a specific niche and carve out an area of the market for yourself where there is less competition. This is one of the most proven approaches to finding millionaire-success as an entrepreneur and it is also something that I have found in my own ventures. I carved out a niche by focusing on penny stocks instead of regular stocks. There wasn't a lot of competition in the market, and by going in on this approach, I was able to find a niche that worked for me and one that delivered some serious results when it came to developing my own strategy towards becoming a millionaire.
