Warning: Don’t read this post if you haven’t seen Season 1 of “Stranger Things.” Duh.
“Stranger Things” Season 2 was officially announced Wednesday, and it’d be strange not to freak out.
But in all your excitement, you might’ve missed the episode titles in the Season 2 teaser video. Understandable. The titles revealed for the nine-episode season are:
- “MadMax”
- “The Boy Who Came Back to Life”
- “The Pumpkin Patch”
- “The Palace”
- “The Storm”
- “The Pollywog”
- “The Secret Cabin”
- “The Brain”
- “The Lost Brother”
Now, thanks to some casting news, fan speculation and our own detective work, we may know some strange spoilers for Season 2:
Episode 1, “MadMax” is about a girl.
According to TV Line, a new character, named Max, is going to be introduced in Season 2. Max is a tough, confident 12 to 14 year-old female who apparently acts like one of the guys and rides a skateboard. She may also be a little “mad.”
Episode 2, “The Boy Who Came Back To Life,” is about Will.
We speculated that this title referred to Will Byers (Noah Schnapp), the kid from Season 1 who is presumed dead before being saved from the Upside Down. It turns out that’s right.
A Redditor noticed the episode’s title is exactly the same as the headline from an article pictured in the Season 1 finale, which calls Will “The Boy Who Came Back To Life.”
Great catch. We’re calling this confirmed.
Episode 3, “The Pumpkin Patch” could be about those eggs from the Upside Down.
Season 2 is taking place in the fall in 1984, so it makes sense that there might be some Halloween-themed episodes. It also make sense that Episode 3, “The Pumpkin Patch,” is referring to those egg-like things Sheriff Hopper (David Harbour) sees in the Upside Down.
We know we’re probably going to see the eggs again thanks to the ending of the Season 1 finale. While complaining that the Dungeons and Dragons campaign they just played was too short, the boys ask, “What about the lost knight, and the proud princess, and those weird flowers in the cave?”
This is thought to be a metaphor for all the unanswered questions from the series. The lost knight could be Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), who disappears; the Proud Princess could be Nancy (Natalia Dyer), who inexplicably ends up with Steve Harrington (Joe Keery). (Ugh, you’re an idiot, Steve Harrington!); and the “weird flowers” are likely the eggs.
Get ready for some creeptastic pumpkins.
Episode 4, “The Palace,” could refer to Nancy.
Some speculation online is that “The Palace” could reference Hawkins Laboratory, aka the place where Eleven was tested on. However, because of the metaphor from the Season 1 finale, it’s feasible that “The Palace” is referring to Nancy.
After all, where else would a “Proud Princess” hang out?
Episode 6, ”The Pollywog,” is likely about that slug-thing Will coughed up.
A pollywog is another word for tadpole, so fans on Reddit suggest this episode could refer to the slug-like thing that Will coughs up in the finale. We know for sure that it’s icky, but we may find out it’s the tadpole/pollywog for the monster.
Zap2it and other outlets note that an alternate definition for pollywog is a sailor who has never crossed the equator. Maybe that means someone who hasn’t been in the Upside Down could cross over?
Bonus: Episode 9, “The Lost Brother,” could be about Eleven.
Netflix, could you just call this one “The Lost Knight”?
Again, touching on the Season 1 finale, the “lost knight” the boys refer to is thought to be Eleven. “The Lost Brother” might be about her since she’s one of the group.
Then again, Episode 8, “The Brain,” and Episode 9, “The Lost Brother,” could both be pointing to the slug thing perhaps getting inside someone’s brain and changing their personality.
Just please don’t let “The Lost Brother” be about Will again. That kid has gone through enough.
