Aside from Paris – the City of Love – Greece, Hawaii or the Maldives, there are more destinations in the world that doesn’t include squeezing your way through throngs of people, overcrowded or overpriced beaches, and overused tourist photo backdrops.

Whether you’re still deciding on a honeymoon destination, want to go all-out for Valentines, are celebrating an anniversary or are just in the mood to explore, here are some less-frequented destinations to consider:

1. Spain

As if being the homeland of artists Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali and the ever-romantic Enrique Iglesias, weren’t enough. Although its most frequented cities are Barcelona and Madrid, little villages and towns offer plenty of other options.

Not that we’re suggesting you take your special other to a bullfight or running of the bulls or anything, but if you are both thrill-seekers, this is the place to be. For some religious routines, pay a visit to Antoni Gaudi’s “Sagrada Familia” masterpiece or stop by the Seville Cathedral.

Fire up your relationship by taking up flamenco dance lessons during your stay; you already have the passion and a partner – all that’s lacking are the dance moves and the music.

2. Iceland

Famous for its Blue Lagoon, a trip to Iceland is never complete without taking a dip in this world renowned wonder. Testimonies frequently revolve around the healing and calming effects of taking a dip in its waters.

Not a fan of sharing a giant hot tub with others? Head to the mountains and catch the Northern Lights, or aurora borealis. Take stargazing to the next level as you watch the colors in the sky swirl. Let the northern lights guide your way and watch your partner’s eyes twinkle along with the sky.

Winter is coming (well, already here). Are you ready to visit this Game of Thrones filming location?

*Tip: means of transportation is best by private vehicle; buses are limited and there are no existing railway systems.

3. Germany

Who said adults don’t yearn for fairy tale vibes every once in a while? Germany is home to a handful of castles and whether you expect to be spooked or feel like you belong to a royal family. Fairy-tale themed plans never run out of style no matter how old you get.

Germany is filled with history-filled palaces and ancient churches, classical entertainment (theatre, opera and ballet tickets are reasonably priced), culture and cuisine. Take a peek at the inspiration for Disney’s Sleeping Beauty as you driving by road most traveled by honeymooners: Romantic Road.

4. Korea

Korea has just the right balance of history and modern fashion and technology.

Hit up Seoul for a more modern and busy experience. Don’t forget to stop by the Seoul tower where Asia’s version of the famous love locks can be found. Compared to the ones in France that were recently cut down and removed, the love locks at the Seoul Tower even have designated areas and metal trees where they can be attached.

One hour away from Seoul is Petite France, a village that makes you feel like you’re in Europe. Inspired by Saint-Exupery’s “The Little Prince”, it even contains a memorial hall to honor the literary masterpiece. This is one way to experience the French culture without stepping outside Asia.

If you’re a fan of their dramas, you’ll even be able to spot some of their filming locations as you roam around.

5. Turkey

If you’re looking for an exotic place in Europe to visit that isn’t Rome or Italy, Turkey is the place for you.

Rent out unique and modern cave hotels in Cappadocia. Then wake up to a spectacular hot air balloon trip over the scenery. Visit vineyards and bring out your inner wine geek.

Istanbul, a UNESCO World Heritage site, also offers plenty of striking historic structures. Get those walking shoes ready, the sights are better appreciated on foot.

If you’re more of a typical tropical couple who yearn for sand, sea and sun, island destinations like the Cayman Islands and Tahiti are the places to be. At the end of the day, it doesn’t really matter where you choose to celebrate your relationship milestones; as long as you have each other, everyday should feel like an adventure.
