Eliminate Your Limiting Belief System by Margaret Marshall

I heard a statistic on the radio that stated 90% of the time we talk to ourselves. In research for Body, Mind, and Mouth, I learned that we have nearly 50,000 thoughts a day and most of them are negative. If we are talking to our selves this much, with most of our thoughts being negative, how can we expect to have positive outlooks to enable us to reach our dreams?

When your mind is packed with negative or limiting beliefs, you construct solid obstacles that stop you from achieving dreams. Dreams and goals are basically the same desires, but goals are more specific. The truth is, first you must know what your dreams are and then you can begin to set goals. By doing so you need to do the ground work and rid yourself of negative or limiting self-talk and beliefs.

A belief is an acceptance in your mind of something that is true or not. They are created by your history or by another person’s. A belief may be deep-seated in a factual circumstance, or in emotions; either way it can be discarded at your command. If a belief no longer serves you, change it.

Define your current beliefs. If they do not propel you toward your dreams they need to be revamped and updated. Negative belief systems become outdated with wisdom. Experiences and life-lessons have provided the wisdom and strength that you currently possess. Put your wisdom to use in your self-talk and use your strength to change the negative messages into positive ones.

1. “I can’t” messages can be changed to, “How can I”? In reality, I can’t is I won’t. Once I won’t is the underlying internal message, you have constructed an obstacle and rendered your dreams out of reach thus eliminating any goal setting. How can I will conjure different responses that allow you a different perspective and direction.

2. “I hope” or “I will” makes the words that follow believable or not. I will is a direct and solid thought. I hope is a soft statement with little or no intention to follow through. A helpful tip is to use I will for personal self-talk, and I hope while speaking to other people. As an example: “I will keep my goals in mind today as I make my choices,” as opposed to, “I hope you have a good day, and remember your goals.” I will is for you, I hope is for everyone else.

3. “I want to, but…” I want to can refer to a specific dream. When you put but into the statement you immediately stop yourself from proceeding toward a favorable outcome. Strength and wisdom are erased with the word but, and you don’t believe any thoughts that follow. Change the message to: “I want to, because…” In doing so, you state your reasons for the want, and will be able to have a strategic method to bring your wants to life in order to reach your goals

At times, we get lost in so many negative beliefs that we lose sight of our wisdom and strengths. Ask your loved ones what your strengths are; they know because they witness them on a regular basis. In doing so you are gaining perspective from someone outside your thoughts and negative filters, offering you a different insight. Your perspective is your reality. Create a positive one.

By eliminating your limiting belief system you allow new opportunities to develop. Negative, limiting beliefs only reside in your head. As you shed them you introduce the real you into the world, allowing you to achieve desired dreams and goals.
