6-Year-Old Boy Critically Injured In Carjacking Attempt Is Third Young Gun Victim In Detroit This Month

6-Year-Old In Carjacking Is Third Child Shot In Detroit This Month

A 6-year-old boy was shot and critically injured during a carjacking in Detroit on Sunday, marking the third pre-teen gunfire victim in the area in less than a month.

Cops told Fox that the boy was in a car with his father when two men approached and fired shots into the vehicle.

The perps had apparently been trying to steal the car, but were collared five hours later.

The boy is still reportedly in critical condition at the hospital. His father was grazed by a bullet, according to the Associated Press.

The tragic scene was just one of several shootings involving children since the beginning of February.

On Feb. 1, cops arrested two people accused of murdering a 12-year-old girl after a dispute over a cell phone. Police called the horrific death of Kade'jah Davis a "senseless act of violence" -- in fact, the cell phone in question wasn't even hers.

On Feb. 20, a west side home was sprayed with bullets in the early hours of the morning, killing a 9-month-old boy. Cops believe that an argument over seating arrangements at Delric Miller's baby shower led to the shooting, but no arrests have been made. The boy's funeral is scheduled for today.

There were 344 homicides in Detroit last year, compared with 308 in 2010. As of mid-February, there have been at least 10 more homicides than by the same time last year.
