7 Beginner’s Tips for Parent Bloggers:

Welcome to the parent blogging world! There are so many parenting blogs, a new blogger can be lost in the world of product reviews, parenting tips and pacifiers. However, there is room for you and your new blog. Here are 7 beginner’s tips to help you get started in the vast world of parent blogging.

1. Build your social media- Pick and choose what type of social media is best for you. Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus, Vine are just a few of the dozens of choices out there. Do not choose all of them because it can become overwhelming. Pick a couple of social media outlets that will best represent you. If you are a product reviewer, Instagram is a must. If you are looking to connect to new businesses or people quickly, Twitter is a great option. Study what you are trying to educate your reader on and reach out to them on the appropriate social media channels.

2. Blog regularly- Ideally a blog post every day, for five days a week is what is going to attract the most readers to your website. However, this is not possible for all parent bloggers. If you can only commit to a blog post a week, make sure that blog post is published at the same time, on the same day, every week. Your readers will build a relationship with you based on consistency. If you suddenly stop posting at the same time, readers will stop reading your blog. Imagine that your favorite newspaper or magazine stopped publishing for a month. You would wonder what had happened and then move on.

3. Make your blog posts from the heart and unique- The Parenting world is vast and people love a great parenting read. But the market is saturated. Try to come up with unique posts that your readers can relate to.

4. Be true to your product reviews- Many parent bloggers review products. You are offered free swag or a little cash from a company who really wants positive reviews about their product. Stay true to what you think is a good product for your parent readers. Your readers will clue in that you have been paid to talk about a bad product and distrust you and evidently, they will stop reading your blog. Believe in the products you give positive reviews to.

5. Decide whether or not to make your blog personal- Are you going to include your intimate details of being a parent? Should you mention the overbearing grandparents or that your kid is being bullied in school? Should you post some intimate pictures of family gatherings? These personal touches can make your parenting blog a hit, but make sure you are respecting those people that surround each story. Will your in-laws appreciate your rant about their visits? Will your children grow up and be embarrassed of you recording and sharing their mishaps when they were younger? These are a few things to consider.

6. Write for other blogs, seriously.- Why write for other blogs? Other parenting blogs are your competition, right? Wrong. The parenting world is filled with so many topics to talk about. There is room for everyone. Writing for other blogs and parenting magazines allows you to branch out and gain new readership and promote your blog. People who may not know your blog will now be exposed to it.

7. Get Your Blog On Top Blog Lists- Show off your new blog and some of your posts to bigger magazines and blogs. You will appreciate that backlink and you may get a badge to display showing that you are a Top Parenting Blogger of a website. It’s a great way to connect with the website’s followers, other top bloggers on the list and their followers. It’s all about expanding your reach!

8. Invite others to write for you- We know, it’s your blog, but when you have the occasional guest writer, you invite all of their social circles and readers on their social media to visit your page. Some of their readers may like your blog so much they start reading it. More dedicated readers for you to have! Different opinions and experiences makes your blog rich in content.

Starting a parenting blog can be overwhelming, but with these simple tips and tricks, a parent blogger can begin to grow their blog into something big, with a dedicated following.
