We’ve had enough of the older man-younger woman romances that have always seemed to be so rampant in Hollywood. What about the older ladies?
So for your next summer binge-watching pleasure, we’ve rounded up some of the best films about May-December romances.
1. “The Graduate”
Who could resist Mrs. Robinson? Dustin Hoffman certainly couldn’t in this iconic ‘60s film about a 20-something man who is seduced by an older married woman, played by Anne Bancroft.
Perhaps the steamiest movie on this list, “Unfaithful” is exactly as it sounds ― a thriller about a middle-aged housewife, played by Diane Lane, and her passionate affair with a younger stranger. Richard Gere plays Lane’s husband in this film that has a surprising twist.
3. “Tea and Sympathy”
One of the older films on the list, this ‘50s film centers around a teenage boy at prep school who seems to be misunderstood and ostracized by everyone except for his house master’s wife.
4. “How Stella Got Her Groove Back”
In this popular late ‘90s film, Angela Bassett plays an overworked, over-stressed single mom who only straightens out her priorities and realizes what she wants in life after a steamy hook-up with a 20-years-younger hunk on a much-needed vacation.
5. “Something’s Gotta Give”
A complicated love triangle ensues between a young man, an older woman, her daughter, and her daughter’s much older lover, played by an A-list cast, including Diane Keaton, Jack Nicholson and Keanu Reeves. One of our all-time favorites.
Two middle-aged moms who are best friends. Their 18-year-old sons. Seduction. Betrayal. You know where this is going.
Set in 1900s Paris, “Cheri” is the story of an aging french courtesan, played by Michelle Pfeiffer, and her tryst with a much younger man that goes on longer than they anticipated, changing their lives indefinitely.
