Make it a low-fi, analog, or tech-free vacation in these far-off places. Photo by Maggie Morris
Is it even possible in this day and age to travel somewhere out of cell phone range and beyond internet connectivity? Team Fathom is resolving to take at least one unplugged vacation -- for solitude, for peace of mind, for the sake of our own sanity.
1. Praise the Unplugged Vacation
Where: Nevada and Utah, USA
There is freedom in being unreachable for a few days. Just think about what you miss when you're busy looking at all of your blinking devices.
2. Take a Quirky Journey to Productivity
Where: Seattle to Shanghai
Desperate to get away from the distractions of daily life? Book (slow) passage on a container ship, and try life in solitary.
3. Hide Out at the End of the World
Swap emails with colleagues for conversations with monkeys in Bali's banana forests. From the delicious food to the incredible culture and friendly people, Bali is truly a magical place.
4. Savor the Darkness
A different kind of luxury, this one involves only a lantern as electricity, a vintage wood stove, and playing cards to pass the time.

5. Ply the South Seas
Where: Cook Islands, Indonesia
A five-cabin teak charter, a crew, manta rays, and you.

6. Get Your Head in the Clouds
Embrace dramatic Californian architecture in the natural world. Who wouldn't want to spend a few days in a swank treehouse?

7. Float Away
Where: Lake Titicaca, Peru
Forget Machu Picchu. Think ancient tribes, floating islands, and singalongs on a reed boat.
