With only a week left before most offices close up for the Christmas period, tonight is a popular night for the office Christmas party. While many see it as a time to wind down and socialize with people they spend most of their time working with, some see it as the perfect excuse to get ridiculously drunk for free.

From the survey results, you can see that a total of 59 percent of all those who were surveyed said they plan to get either drunk or really drunk at the party, with the drunk option being around 10 drinks and really drunk being 15+.

Although this is quite a high figure, when the survey was narrowed down to the ages of 18-26, we saw more worrying results.

A total of 410 Millennials took part in the survey, and out of those, a huge 70 percent said that they will be drinking at least 10 drinks. 34 percent said they are planning to get “really drunk”, or will drink at least 15 drinks.

Once again, the fact that more millennials plan to get drunk than people of slightly older age groups isn’t a massive surprise, but 70 percent is a high number.

At Christmas, people have a tendency to drink a little bit more and go a little bit crazy. Although for most people all this results in is a sore head in the morning, drinking excessively comes with its dangers.

Only last week, a university student died after drinking large quantities of alcohol. And that same article states that London Ambulance Services responded to over 6,000 alcohol related incidents last December - 7 percent of all call-outs.

There are also a number of health issues associated with binge drinking that can affect you in later life.

As well as the health concerns of drinking way too much at the Christmas party, your behaviour could also affect your career. There’s nothing worse than waking up with a P45 in your stocking, especially if it’s a job that you love.

Although people aren’t expected to be pariahs at the office Christmas party, try to have a little bit of self-control with the amount you drink. Your job, or even your life, depends on it.
