If you are creating a podcast, you want to reach as large of an audience as possible. In order to do this, you need to do three things: promote, promote, and promote some more. When it comes to promoting a podcast, there are some ideas that work a lot better than others. We have come up with a list of eight simple tips you can use that will help you to promote your podcast.

1. Create Awesome Titles

The titles you choose will go a long way in how much people are interested in your podcasts. You need to create titles that are going to draw people in and make them want to learn more. You also need to use themes that are widely applicable, and use the same core strategy for each episode you create.

2. Publish New Episodes

It is important that you publish new episodes of your podcast a minimum of three times weekly, for the first eight weeks that the podcast is running. You can have eight weeks from iTunes to be featured in the New and Noteworthy section the day after you launch, and this is going to really help to get your podcasts noticed.

3. Get Listed on iTunes and SoundCloud

As previously mentioned, you should be featured on iTunes, and you should be featured on SoundCloud. When you are listed in these sites, you can expect to double and even triple the amount of downloads for your podcasts. You will have a step-by-step guide on how to submit your podcasts. Apply for listing well before you plan to launch the podcast, as it can take up to two weeks for podcasts to be approved by iTunes.

4. Use Tools to Promote Your Podcasts

There are many tools available for you to use in order to promote your podcasts. These tools are often free to use, or cost very little, and they can do a lot to get your podcasts noticed. Some of the best tools include Stitcher, BuyPlays, TuneIn, Devumi, and iHeart.

5. Create Awesome Cover Art

People often do judge a book by its cover, and they do the same with podcasts. If the cover art isn’t interesting, many people will scroll on by and go to something different. It is a good idea to try and get professional cover art, if you aren’t an artist yourself. It doesn’t have to be expensive, and it really is well worth it in the long run.

6. Create a Website

You may want to consider setting up a website for your podcast. A WordPress site only costs a few dollars, and it is a great place for you to be able to interact with your audience. This is also a great way for people to be able to discover your podcasts, because even those who don’t usually use iTunes will be able to find you and learn more about what you have to offer.

7. Get Into Audio

If you are uncertain about whether to create video or audio podcasts, always go with audio. Believe it or not, more people are into audio podcasts than videos, because they can listen to them at any time, even if they are on the move. Audio podcasts are perfect for people working out, walking their dogs, working on repetitive tasks, commuting, etc.

8. Describe the Podcast in Detail

You will be asked to describe your podcast when creating the XML feed, so make sure that you describe it in the greatest detail possible. Include information on what the podcast is about, how it can help listeners, how often new episodes are broadcasted, what media format is used, etc. The more information you can provide, the better.
