A Few Things I'm Really Into Right Now

I have started the habit of carrying around a notebook with me. When I am drinking coffee in the library, or sitting outside watching my dog frolic around the backyard, I find myself making lists. Passion is something I feel for things that touch me or that I thoroughly enjoy. Here is a list I found myself making the other day when I should have been studying for my rhetorical theory quiz. It's what I'm passionate about right now and I wanted to share it with all of you.

Dragonette's Body Parts. If you're into sick dance beats and a girl who can SAAAANG, I recommend Dragonette's latest endeavor, Body Parts. I think I am drawn to this album because I am able to sit in my room with a glass of wine and listen to song after song and think, "This was written for me. This is my life." If you enjoy the urge to dance around your room in the dark in your underwear or are just interested in great music, I definitely recommend it. The song "Untouchable" is a highlight for me because it's about a bad-ass chick afraid to do naughty things with her lover lest she corrupt him. I'm all about it.

Wes Anderson's Moonrise Kingdom. I know I'm tardy to the party on this one, but I live in Tallahassee and it's rare that anything meriting praise is shown in our theaters. Finally, the $3 theater put this gem on their lineup and I was so there. Once you get past the fact that Wes Anderson creepily had his two young leads dance around in their underwear and French kiss, the love story is extremely well done. It's not over the top, it's not cheesy. It's blissfully accessible and it took all my feelings, put them in a blender and spit them all back out to me. Plus, the film itself is gorgeous. If those things don't convince you that this movie is worth your time, then I'll have to pull out the big guns: Bruce Willis.

Hero by Perry Moore. Usually books about being gay seem, well, sparkly and campy. This book read more like an epic action novel rather than a "coming out" story... Even though that's exactly what it was. The main character, Thom, has the ability to heal people with his hands. As he attempts to run away from home, he assists in stopping a crime and is invited to join a justice league-esque group. From there he really comes into his own and kicks ass. OH! He also happens to be gay and fall in love with a super beautiful babe. It's an easy read and author Moore crafts his story with diligence and care.

Retro MTV. I rediscovered this little nugget of pop culture from my generation on-demand the other night. If you thought "The Hills" was absurd when you were in high school, I beg you to revisit the series now that you're older and wiser. I couldn't stop laughing at shows like "Parental Control" and the episode of "The Hills" where Lauren just keeps screaming at her human Xanax/ex-BFF Heidi "YOU KNOW WHAT YOU DID!" I could almost see the producers off-screen luring Heidi back into her straight jacket with incense and the promise of more diet pills.

"The X-Factor" USA. If you're curious to see how Britney Spears has been doing these days, tune in every week! I'm totally recommending this because I can't stop being fascinated by how little Britney emotes like a normal human these days. Babe, you okay?
