A Mid-Semester, Mid-College Pep Talk

You can do it. Quitting now just puts you in debt. I get it, the fact that you still have three (four? five?) semesters left is a pretty heavy weight to feel.

I get it, the fact that you still have three (four? five?) semesters left is a pretty heavy weight to feel.

But hey. You did not go through 13 years of public education and two years of college (and take on thousands of dollars of student loan debt) just to get to this point and give up. You're better than that. Your grades kind of suck (but you're still passing) and you aren't sure when the last time you got more than 6 hours of sleep was, but you're hanging in there.

But yeah, some of those decisions you're making aren't that smart. Don't get me wrong, school sucks, but come on. Skipping class as often as you have been isn't helping. It's 50 minutes. All you have to do is show up. It's not that bad. Also, stop drinking on weeknights. You know better.

Sometimes college is the worst thing ever. Coffee isn't as pleasant to drink when it's your fifth cup at 2 a.m. to finish a paper due in six hours (also, did you remember to study for that test tomorrow afternoon?) I get that. But it's also kind of great when it's your third piece of pizza at 2 a.m. on a Friday and you're with your very best friends on the floor of your apartment that you can barely make rent for every month but at least it's all yours.

Do not go home. Do not give up. I know graduation seems like forever away (especially now that you need an extra semester to finish everything) but it's nothing in the grand scheme of things. Do not throw your hands up in the air in exhaustion and desperation. Clench your fists and buckle down, because you can do this.
