A PRESIDENT, A MOVIE AND A WALL….

“ Xanadu is the fictional estate of Charles Foster Kane, the title character of the film Citizen Kane (1941). The estate derives its name from the ancient city of Xanadu known for its splendor.

Built on an immense "private mountain" located on the "deserts of the Gulf Coast" in Florida, Xanadu is described as being the world's largest private estate; "Cost: no man can say," according to the newsreel at the beginning of the film

I have to say few things about Donald Trump and the unique show he has staged since the moment he was elected the 45th President of the United States of America.

First of all, the dynamic he created even before his inauguration is more than impressive. Maybe it’s the first time we’ve seen a President–elect draw so much attention with his political maneuvers and, in this way, apply his policies even before officially taking office. Trump has already shaken up the political system for good—and not necessarily for good purpose.

My second point is that Trump is what some call “the guy you love to hate”. Indeed, on a daily basis, Donald Trump is there. Donald is there with a tweet, with a controversial choice, or with an irrational statement. Donald is there everyday and if he’s not there, there is a feeling that something is not right.

No matter how irrational his statements and plans, I am convinced he will try to make all of them reality. Having completed building his cabinet—a unique combination of retired military officers and active high-levels businessmen—we can understand that the symbolism is clear. It’s the hardcore dogma of American military fundamentalism that goes along with business. Business is great, but war business is even greater. And I believe that we will see this become reality very soon.

A lot of discussions took place—and for a period was the main campaign issue—about the «Trump Wall» the President said he would build along the border with Mexico to prevent illegal migrants of entering the USA. The majority of «thinking people» —not necessarily those who voted in the presidential election—could not and still can’t believe that Trump will make this a reality. Apart of the enormous cost of such a project—a cost that Trump claims Mexico will pay—it isn’t a functional solution to this problem. Unless the wall built also extends several feet underground to block tunnels.

Donald Trump is today’s re-incarnation of Citizen Kane. He is a man who set out with the intention of conquering everything as he did. The repulsion and rejection he received during his presidential campaign doesn't apply to him and is not affecting him at all. As a real-life Charles Foster Kane, he wants to make his mark with the major successes he achieves. To do so, he prefers massive structures that carry his name and create awe in the common people. Whoever has had the chance to visit Manhattan realizes this when coming face-to-face with Trump’s name on several skyscrapers dominating the City’s skyline. Trump is in Kane’s league and the wall that he will build, the one that will offend not only the USA’s dignity but all of humanity’s, will be his personal Xanadu. In this way he will leave a “monument” that will dominate the certain historic moment with his name on it. And therefore I believe that he will eventually build it.
