A Sense of Wonder

If you want to witness a natural display of a sense of wonder, just observe a child. A child's whole world is viewed through the eyes of wonder and excitement. You may have often heard the term "be childlike," referring to our adult self to let go of the adult ego and be more open and curious. The truth is that we lose our sense of wonder as we become adults.

We want to know what will happen, how it will happen and when it will happen, as if this will give us a sense of control over our lives. We want certainty of how things will work out with our relationships, with our professions, with our finances and with life in general.

Our need to know the outcome has taken precedent in our lives so much so that we are missing the magic of life. We are not comfortable with surprises and things that happen that we don't understand. We do not allow the magic of life to unfold. Children on the other hand understand the magic of life; they see and feel it everywhere. Their sense of wonder is an innate quality they are born with and navigate through their young life seeing the world with much amazement.

What happens as we enter adulthood? Where has this sense of wonder and openness to what life will bring gone? What happened to trusting life to show up as it is meant to? What's this need to know rather than be open to what life is here to show us?

Just for one minute ask yourself what if you approached life with the question, "I wonder why this is happening to me?" rather than judging what is occurring or coming from a place of fear. This is exactly what I encourage my clients to ask to have a sense of wonder of why things are the way they are and also to be open to what will unfold for them.

Something very interesting happens when my clients approach their sessions this way. By asking this question they have opened the door to their wiser self to give them the answers. As they remain curious and open, things will be revealed to them either consciously or during subconscious work. They take away with them learnings that impact their life moving forward.

Life is happening for you, not to you. What this means is that everything that has happened in your life and is happening to you right now, is serving you to delve deeper into your self. Life is asking you to approach what is happening to you with a curiosity and a sense of wonder rather than a "why me" attitude. The story doesn't matter -- only what insights and learnings you have gained about yourself and life.

We hear of tragedy every day from around the world as we are a global village and we are impacted by the pain, the suffering and the sadness other people are experiencing. Amongst all the plethora of tragic stories there are tales that are emerging of great generosity of spirit, forgiveness and the coming together in love and healing. This would only happen when a few have an awareness to see beyond the circumstances, and with curiosity and a sense of wonder ask of themselves "what is life wanting to reveal to me at this moment," "how can I be a human being and open my heart" and "how can I be of service to my fellow man."

In fact, we don't have to wait till tragedy strikes to be of service; we can be of service at any time just by navigating through life with a willingness to share our gifts with others. Don't you see that by being yourself and sharing what you have been given you are sharing the wonder that you are? Yes, you heard it right -- you are a wonder, a unique piece of god, so unique that you are one of kind. There is no one like you in the world. You are a treasure chest of amazing gifts and wonder that is just waiting to be opened and all to be revealed. When you are willing to see yourself that way you are allowing life to unfold through you in wonderful ways.

Socrates said, "Wonder is the beginning of wisdom." To walk through life with a sense of wonder means you open up to a higher knowledge that is beyond the physical mind. Your tool to tap into this wisdom is your imagination. Your imagination is the conduit to your higher self, which is your true self, the one that knows the truth of who you are.

Imagine what it would be like to live the life you dream of. Imagine a life of abundance, joy and love. Activate a sense of wonder of what it would feel like to have your dreams come true. This is not fiction, but rather very possible, as you are the creator of your life. When you start to see the wonder of each moment, by being in the moment and appreciating life and feeling good, you start to align your vibration with all the things that are similar in nature.

In that moment you have opened up a portal of goodness for things to come your way. When you stand in gratitude and appreciation for the moment you align yourself with all that is joyous, pure, loving and wonderful in the world. Life will reflect back to you what you are emanating and how you are showing up in life.

When you show up with a reverence for your life no matter what has come to pass, the door of possibilities will open. You will be amazed at how solutions come to you for the problems you have been living with; resources, knowledge and people will show up at just the right time to support you. This is not some fairy tale -- this is the way in which life and the universe works. Your part is to trust, to take action on what you intuitively feel you should do and to approach life with your glass full of wonder.

Life is asking of you to acknowledge the wonder that is you, to have a sense of wonder about life, to stop and appreciate the present moment, to offer a smile, a kind word or deed to your fellow man -- not to gain anything, but rather just to give of your wondrous self.

Go on, give yourself permission today to reclaim your sense of wonder, to take in a few deep breaths and stand in wonder at the magnificence of life, at the people you meet along the way that impact your life, at the wonder of mother nature, and at the miracle of being alive. As Louis Armstrong sang, "What a wonderful world." Indeed, it is.
