Meryl Streep is used to awards by now. She is, after all, the reigning queen of cinema and has held that fictitious but totally accurate title for decades now. On Monday evening, however, her deep roots in theatre were front and center. In an audience filled with longtime friends, peers and classmates from her days at the Yale School of Drama and Waterford's Eugene O'Neill Theater Center, the actress received the 14th-Annual Monte Cristo Award at a ceremony held in the Edison Ballroom in New York City. The O'Neill Theater Center presents the award each year in recognition to with a strong theater background and for "exemplifying Eugene O'Neill's 'pioneering spirit, unceasing artistic commitment, and excellence.' Prior to the event, friends and admirers walked the red carpet to talk all things Streep. Well, then there's me who threw a couple of curveballs including one to the lady of the hour about the zombie Apocalypse. Watch on for A-Sides interviews which include Streep, Rocky Broadway star Margo Siebert, Judith Light, Kathy Baker, and Preston Whiteway, the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center's executive director.

About A-Sides Music
Jon Chattman's "A-Sides Music" series was established in August 2011 and usually features artists (established or not) from all genres performing a track, and discussing what it means to them. This informal series focuses on the artist making art in a low-threatening, extremely informal (sometimes humorous) way. No bells, no whistles -- just the music performed in a random, low-key setting followed by an unrehearsed chat. In an industry where everything often gets overblown and over manufactured, I'm hoping this is refreshing. Artists have included: fun, Blondfire, Rob Zombie, Pharrell Williams, Courtney Love, American Authors, Imagine Dragons, Gary Clark Jr., and more!
