Years from now historians and pundits will look back at the 2016 presidential election, and likely let out a collective "what the what?" Heck, they're all doing it now. This whole race from the very beginning has been a cluster you know what, and while it's made headlines (for all the wrong reasons), it really is a sad chapter in our country's rich history. Anyway, the Hillary Clinton/ Donald Trump showdown has been documented everywhere so I'll forgo any regurgitation. I will say this, though, Trump has run off the rails so many times, I'm shocked he's still the Republican nominee. So many of us are scared which misdirection he'll take our country. One such individual wrote a song about it, and he's not even from here originally.
Ledinsky hails from Sweden, and wrote the song "DonaldTrumpMakesMeWannaSmokeCrack" in response to the billionaire former reality star's rise of power. Needless to say, the track hit #1 on the Spotify Viral Charts in the USA, UK, Netherlands, Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Switzerland, Columbia, Spain, France and Hungary. But the song wasn't simply put out to the world as a way to go viral. The artist explains it's more about "a love for America," a country he's lived in over the last decade.
Anyway, the song is on Ledinsky's recently released EP High Society, and aside from the aforementioned track, there's actually more awesome tunes on it that has absolutely nothing to do with the election. The EP features Dave Sitek of TV On The Radio, Dave Sandstrom from Refused, and fellow Swede Erik Hassle. Check it out. For now, watch Ledinsky's exclusive A-Sides performance of DTMMWSC, and enjoy our brief interview.
About A-Sides with Jon Chattman - thisisasides.com :
Jon Chattman's music/entertainment series typically features celebrities and artists (established or not) from all genres performing a track, and discussing what it means to them. This informal series focuses on the artist making art in a low-threatening, extremely informal (sometime humorous) way. No bells, no whistles -- just the music performed in a random, low-key setting followed by an unrehearsed chat. In an industry where everything often gets overblown and over manufactured, Jon strives for a refreshing change. Artists featured on the series include Imagine Dragons, Melissa Etheridge, Yoko Ono, Elle King, Joe Perry, Alice Cooper, fun, Bleachers, Charli XCX, Marina and the Diamonds, and Bastille.
