Aaron Carter's Justification For Donald Trump Support Makes No Sense

Obviously, when you think politics, you think Aaron Carter.

We've been waiting with bated breath to find out who the former child star would support this presidential election, so when he endorsed Donald Trump on Twitter last month, this was pretty much our reaction.

However, after receiving some not-so-friendly responses to his political views on social media, the "I Want Candy" singer was given the chance to explain himself in more than 140 characters.

"I support Donald Trump. I don’t support every little thing," he told GQ in an exclusive interview. "Trump goes his own way. He’s a leader, not a follower, and he’s proven that by humbling the other campaigns. I think in regards to him becoming president, well, the electoral college will be the decider."

Carter wants to make it clear that just because he supports Trump, that doesn't mean he stands behind some of The Donald's controversial views.

"I don’t agree with banning gay marriage," he stated. "It’s outlandish, because he has supported the gay community before. And building a wall is totally outrageous."

So why then, is Lizzie McGuire's former lover stanning for Trump? Well, Carter feels a certain connection to the presidential hopeful: they have both filed for bankruptcy and now are very focused on making money.

"I kind of just find myself being able to relate," he admitted. "I like what he’s doing for taxes for the people. And I like what he’s focused on. Like, let’s worry about our deficit right now. And about our country. And about how we can actually make it great again. He’s proving that sometimes you have to file for bankruptcy and rebuild. I can relate. I’ve been through it." Um, we once went to the same Chinese restaurant as George Bush, but that doesn't mean we voted for him.

But there might be hope for the former teen heartthrob yet, as there is much to be decided before November 2016. "There’s still time to see how it works out. And I haven’t even made my vote," he remarked. "If Trump can’t change some of his ways of thinking, then I’m just going to sit this one out."

You hear that, Hillary (Clinton, not Duff)? Swoop that endorsement right quick because the Democratic Party is great, but Aaron's Party is better.

Editor's note: Donald Trump is a serial liar, rampant xenophobe, racist, misogynist, birther and bully who has repeatedly pledged to ban all Muslims -- 1.6 billion members of an entire religion -- from entering the U.S.
