"ABC World News" just won the demo during the July sweep period, and they're celebrating.
But not so fast, says NBC News. "NBC Nightly News" won the July sweep in total viewers, and the network highlighted the program's win among younger demo viewers ages 18 to 49.
It's the latest battle in an increasingly heated war between the two evening newscasts. ABC beat NBC in the demo for the first week in eight years in April. Then, it went on to beat NBC in the demo during the May sweep. The network is also up in the demo compared to last year, whereas NBC and CBS are both down.
The July ratings marked the first time "ABC World News" has won the July sweep in seven years, since 2007. Still, "NBC Nightly News" drew the most total viewers in July — with an average of 7.786 million viewers (versus ABC's 7.378 million).
