Shooting At El Paso Military Hospital Kills 2

2 Killed In Shooting At El Paso Military Hospital

Two people were killed, including the gunman, in a shooting at a military hospital Tuesday evening in Texas.

The shooting took place at the Veterans Affairs medical center at Fort Bliss in El Paso, according to the El Paso Times.

"The alleged shooter is dead and we have one casualty. That one casualty is deceased," said Maj. Gen. Stephen Twitty of the 1st Armored Division at a press conference. "Everything is under control and there is no immediate threat to Fort Bliss or the local community."

Authorities offered few other details about shooting. The FBI is conducting the investigation and its lead agent said there are hundreds of possible witnesses, many of them patients, to question.

"This has been a model of how to respond," said Special Agent In Charge Doug Lindquist. Previous emergency drills conducted at the hospital on how to handle an active shooter were useful today, Lindquist said.

KFOX reported that the hospital had been placed on lockdown immediately after the gunfire was reported.
