Perhaps one of the most exciting times of the year for amusement park fans is during the month of October, when parks all across the world deck the place out with Halloween decorations as far as the eye can see. Included in these events are daring shows, terrifying haunted houses, and spooky scare zones.

As a huge fan of this time of year, I personally try to make it out to a few of these events to see how they differ from each other. My most recent visit brought me to Las Vegas, Nevada, where I made sure to make a stop at the Adventuredome.

If you're unfamiliar with the layout of the Las Vegas strip, Circus Circus can be found towards the end, near the Stratosphere. The Adventuredome specifically is located at the back of the hotel, encased in a giant pink dome. And the best part? Free admission! Just enter Circus Circus through the main doors and walk straight to the back, where you'll then walk right in! Of course, those looking to ride the rides will want to get tickets or a ride wristband.

During October, the park operates like normal until around 6:00, where then the dome is emptied so it can be transformed into "Fright Dome." During this time, the dome goes absolutely dark, allowing for monsters to roam and scare any guests who dare to enter one of the 5 scare zones- Clown Havoc, VooDoo, Freak Show, Corn Stalkers, and Fright Club.

Any other monsters participating in Fright Dome can be found in one of the parks 6 haunted houses- Clownz, Hellcatraz, Krampus, Ouija, Wasteland 2, and new for 2016, Five Nights at Freddy's.

Interestingly, one different aspect to the mazes at Fright Dome is the addition of 'guides.' As your party enters each of the mazes, you're given a guide who will lead you through, giving commentary and adding to the story. For example, in the prison themed Hellcatraz maze, a prison guard will lead. In a maze like Clownz, what better guide then, well...a clown!

As someone who's been to several haunt events before, I've never seen guides used before. It was something unique, and I really liked it! For one maze, I remember thinking that my guide was the best part of it! She was super into it and really embraced her character. In instances like this, the maze suddenly becomes that much more believable, as you see the guide less as an actor, and more like the actual monster they're portraying.

Something you can't help but love about the mazes here is how they each play with a different type of fear- Five Nights at Freddy's relies on sudden loud sounds, while Ouija plays with the fear of being alone, as you are literally separated from your party during the maze, leaving you to wander around completely by yourself- without a guide.

What makes or breaks a good maze comes down to the monsters inside- you can have all the detail you want, but if the actors aren't scaring anyone, then it leaves the public with mixed reactions. Because of this, I know my personal favorite maze of the night had to be Wasteland 2. This is the only maze located outside, and was filled with so many devoted scare actors. By the time I had exited the maze, three monsters had continued to follow me well after the maze was over, and just wouldn't leave me alone! It all ended with me lying on the floor while they all pretended to hack at me with chainsaws, mallets, and knives. Guests about to enter this maze who saw that go down were probably a little freaked out!

Overall I had a really positive experience at Fright Dome, and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a good scare in the Las Vegas area. It's a great way to spend a Friday or Saturday night. Unfortunately October is about to come to a close, so there isn't much time left to experience Fright Dome, so if you're interested in visiting, I'd recommend visiting http://frightdome.com for more information. And if you can't make it out this year, there's always next year.

Too scared to visit, or maybe its just plain too far away? Have no fear, I compiled a bunch of footage from Fright Dome for your enjoyment:

So hopefully that gives you a good idea of what the experience is like. Unfortunately no filming is allowed inside the mazes, so if you want to know what the experience is like, you'll just have to come and do it for yourself!
