Now that the victory parties in California have subsided and Prop 8 is a distant memory, it's time for the American Foundation for Equal Rights (AFER) to turn its attention to its next case. Today the organization announced that it would redouble its efforts to attain full federal marriage equality -- this time with a lawsuit in Virginia.

Word came this morning that AFER is joining a preexisting case brought by two couples. Ted Olson and David Boies will assume the role of lead co-counsel and will put forth the same constitutional arguments that were successful in the Prop 8 case in California.

The federal district court there tends to rule quickly, so we may have a decision in the case quite soon.

Meanwhile, other lawsuits continue around the country, in New Mexico, Pennsylvania, Hawaii, and Michigan, and even in a separate Virginia case.
