Remember when everyone cared about what was going on with Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt of "The Hills"? Their meteoric rise in the public eye ended as quickly as it began. But that didn't stop E! from checking in on the couple in the special, "After Shock: Heidi & Spencer."
The couple America loved to hate has been staying out of the spotlight for the last few years, saying that it's because their fortune faded along with their fame. As if America needed more reasons to dislike them, the pair admitted to fabricating tabloid stories about bankruptcy and divorce solely to bankroll their lives. In hindsight, they've realized they were living unrealistically.
“We have kind of come to the point where it’s a reality check and it’s like, whoa, we had a lot of money and whoa, we spent a lot of money," Heidi said. Spencer added, "We should have like $10 million plus in the bank. And we don’t."
Heidi confessed that she would have quit "The Hills" after Season 2 had she known she would become so fame-obsessed. The couple have since toned down their lifestyle. Spencer just graduated from USC, while Heidi had her infamous F-sized breast implants removed. That rash decision to get 10 plastic surgeries in one day kept Heidi and her mother not talking for two years.
Now, the couple is working on their personal relationships, including making peace with their one-time sworn enemy, Lauren Conrad. Heidi told People she'd recently apologized to her former BFF for getting all caught up in the fame machine. It looks like not being famous is definitely agreeing with the couple.
