Getting older comes with its fair share of frustrations, awkward moments and embarrassing scenarios. We imagine having to wear a skin-tight super-suit at all times probably doesn't help. In his series "Aging Superhero," Swedish artist Andreas Englund explores the trials and tribulations of a superhero past his prime, just trying to make it through the day, let alone save it.
In precise detail, Englund depicts an array of "super" issues -- the bank robberies, the flying, the taking-down-ten-men-with-your-bare-hands, along with the everyday trifles we can all relate to -- stubbornly shut jars, wedgies and disappointingly sour clementines. Englund's intensely rendered hyperrealism captures the contrast between his protagonist's superhuman glow and the wrinkles and fatigue that come in those later years. We believe in you, Supergrandpa!
