This week, just hours before the Grammy Awards ceremony, word came of the death of legendary singer Al Jarreau. The seven-time Grammy winner is the only vocalist to ever claim a Grammy in the three distinct genres of Jazz, Pop and R&B.
I feel fortunate to have had him on my PBS program many times over the years. In the aftermath of the passing of his friend and collaborator, George Duke, I asked Al if losing his friend made him think about his own dance with mortality. It would be his very last appearance on the show.
