Al Sharpton took a page out of "The Parent Trap" and "The Colbert Report" on Monday, deploying another Al Sharpton in order to trash Mitt Romney.
Seriously, you're not hallucinating! There were two Al Sharptons gabbing about Romney on MSNBC. It felt like a bizarro version of Colbert's "Formidable Opponent" segment, and the sight of Sharpton complimenting himself and clearly enjoying the spectacle was hilariously surreal.
The segment was focused on--what else?--Romney's reputation as a flip flopper. It's a theme that's gotten some increased attention recently, with Romney's campaign rivals producing brutal commercials attacking him for changing his positions on so many things.
Sharpton introduced his conversation partner, "The Rev.," and dived right in. The formula was pretty simple: Sharpton would play a clip of Romney stating his position on something. Then he would set his partner up.
"Pretty hard to argue with that kind of conviction!" Al said at one point. "For you it is, but for Willard, it's as easy as argyle," the Rev. replied. (Is argyle easy? What's a tougher fabric pattern?)
Sharpton also got to say things like "whoa, cowboy!" Which is mind-blowing all on its own. When the segment was over, Sharpton congratulated himself.
"This is a great show, if I do say so myself!" he told the Rev. "You look marvelous!" the Rev. told him. So much love between those two!
